Exams and Consultations

Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pet’s health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems. We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. It is a legal requirement to have your pet seen yearly in order for us to dispense any prescriptions. Often times health problems that go undetected can become more serious issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy. Our staff will get a chance to talk to you and see if you are having any trouble with your pet. We will also go over diet, preventative medicine, and exercise to ensure that your pet is as healthy as possible. Then, one of our veterinarians will do a complete physical examination on your pet. It is always good to have a baseline in case your pet ever becomes ill. We also want to monitor your pet’s weight, ensuring that your pet stays a healthy weight. It is much easier to start a diet when a pet is a pound overweight instead of fifteen! Our veterinarian will also look for any potential problems. Our goal is to catch any problems before they become major ones. The sooner that we are able to catch a problem, the easier it is to treat it and the more likely that your pet will make a full recovery.

Referrals

Our doctors on staff are able to accommodate certain referrals and consultations depending on current caseload. Dr. Krell does offer ultrasound consults. Ultrasound consults do require a more in depth exam and longer allotted time frame than a normal appointment. For any outside requests (if you are a fellow DVM wanting to submit a referral), please ensure to attach and forward any and all records regarding the patient to pawsnprairie@gmail.com, as this will help make the scheduling process go more smoothly.

Please give us a call if you think your pet may require an exam or consult and one of our staff members will assist you further.

Health Certificate Exams/International Travel Exams:

Please note that when you take your pet across state lines and/or across international borders (Canada/Mexico) and back, there are specific regulations and requirements for admittance into each state/back into the United States. A health certificate is most commonly one of these requirements. In addition, the pet must be vaccinated for rabies and microchipped to prove identification. Health certificates must be written within 10 days of examination to prove animal health status. Most health certificates are good for 30 days. If you are traveling or have a pet that may be traveling, please contact the clinic right away to set up an appointment.
