February 1, 2025
To the Wonderful Clients of Our Practice,
I would like to take this opportunity to reach out to our many amazing clients. Your support over the years has been invaluable in helping our practice reach new heights. You have entrusted us with the care of your beloved four-legged (and some three-legged) family members. Thanks to your loyalty, I have been able to achieve the goal of following in the footsteps of our area’s beloved Drs. Hartman and King who also served as my mentors.
I have thoroughly enjoyed returning to my hometown and providing a valuable service to the community that has supported me for so many years. I genuinely appreciate the strong relationships we have built. My staff and I have had the privilege of assisting many families through joyful moments, while also navigating some challenging times together as well.
Starting Monday, February 24, 2025, Paws & Prairie Animal Clinic will begin a transition to a different model of business. Due to professional and personal reasons, we will be moving into a House Call based practice. We expect to be completely full-time House Call only by the end of March 2025.
House Call visits provide the convenience of seeing patients in their homes, reducing stress and anxiety. This approach allows for more personalized, one-on-one focused care. We can ensure that each appointment has ample time to fully address the patient’s health, as well as any concerns or questions they may have. Additionally, we can see multiple pets during the house call, saving you the time and hassle of transporting them to the vet.
Please remember that House Call appointments are limited to wellness and non-urgent medical exams (skin infections, ear infections, uncomplicated urinary infections, mild diarrhea, etc).
We will be able to provide:
· Annual health evaluations
· Medical or Sick Pet exams (for non-urgent/non-emergency cases)
· Vaccinations, injectable and prescription medications
· Collect samples (like blood/urine/feces) for diagnostic lab testing
· Ultrasonographic exams (cardiac, abdomen, small parts)
· Treat and bandage minor wounds
· Prescribe medications
· Hygiene services like nail trims, mat removal, anal gland expressions, and cleaning ears
· Quality of life consultation, palliative management, and in-home euthanasia
All appointments already scheduled at Paws & Prairie, including surgeries, will be honored through February 17, 2025. If you have appointments scheduled outside of this timeframe, we will contact you within the next 5 business days to reschedule. In February and March, we will have a limited number of surgery days for dental procedures, spays, and neuters. If you would like to be have your pet’s procedure be done with us in the Wadena clinic, please reach out by phone at (218) 631-5826, via our PetPortal at or email us at pawsnprairie@gmail.com. Additionally, we will provide a list of alternative options for surgical and dental care within the week should the dates not be amenable to your schedule.
We recognize that this type of practice may not be suitable for every family, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. A more traditional brick-and-mortar practice can provide a broader range of services, which may be more appropriate for some of our current clients.
Due to the nature of our House Call practice, emergency care will be very limited moving forward and will depend on the doctor’s availability during regular hours. For urgent care and emergency services, please consider visiting the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital in Fargo, ND, at 701-478-9299. You may also reach out to other local clinics that may have availability.
Thank you all for your support over the past 12½ years! We look forward to our next chapter as a mobile practice, providing a new approach to veterinary care for your family and pets.
Kindest regards,
Chrissy Krell, DVM

We would like to clarify some important points:
-This will remain small animal only. For large animal service, please reach out to local large animal veterinarians.
– If your pet’s surgical or dental appointment is already scheduled for February or March, please rest assured that these appointments will proceed as planned unless you hear otherwise from us.
– While our availability for surgical and dental procedures may be more limited moving forward, we remain dedicated to providing these essential services.
– We will also continue to offer appointments with our technician for booster shots and other services, but these will only be available on specific days.
– For medication refills, please request them at least 48 hours in advance. They will be ready for pick-up within 1-2 business days. Alternatively, you can use our online pharmacy for direct shipping to your home. Please note that details about medications we will no longer stock in the clinic were shared in a previous email.
If you have any other questions or specific concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email at pawsnprairie@gmail.com or call 218-631-5826 during business hours. We are here to assist you.
